5 Tips for Sticking to Healthy Eating When Life Gets Busy
The habits that survive a bad week — not the ones that only work when everything's going to plan.
By Shaun Wagner · 17 August 2026

Everyone eats well in a calm week. The test is the other kind. These are the five things that hold up when work is on fire and you're home at eight.
1. Decide once, not nightly
The moment of failure is 7PM, hungry, with nothing planned. Move the decision earlier: on Sunday, decide what the hard nights are eating. It doesn't have to be prepped — it just has to be decided, and the ingredients (or the box) has to be in the fridge. Write it on the fridge door if that's what it takes. The decision is the work; the cooking is the easy part.
2. Make the good option the easy option
Willpower is not a plan. If the fastest food in your house is toast, you'll eat toast. If it's a plate that takes three minutes in the microwave and has 40g of protein in it, you'll eat that. Rearrange your kitchen — and your shopping — so the easy thing is the right thing.
3. Protein at every meal
Not because of muscle, though that too — because it's the thing that makes you full. Breakfast, lunch and dinner each with a proper protein source, and the 4PM biscuit stops being a fight. Aim for 25–40g a meal: two or three eggs, a tin of tuna, a chicken thigh, a cup of yoghurt, a big portion of beans. It's the cheapest change with the biggest effect on how the afternoon goes.
4. Stop treating one bad meal as a bad week
The thing that derails people isn't the takeaway. It's the "well, that's ruined it" that follows, and the three days of nonsense after. One meal is one meal. The next one is a fresh start, and it's the average across the week that matters. Twenty-one meals a week; if eighteen are decent, you're doing better than almost everyone.
5. Have a fallback that isn't the app
Everyone has a bad night. The difference is whether the fallback is a delivery app or something better. A fresh box in the fridge for the hard nights — delivered Monday, Wednesday and Friday, ordered by 8PM the night before, no subscription — is a fallback that keeps you on track rather than knocking you off it. That's what we built Prepd to be.
